The Brief

For this project, I was tasked with illustrating an exclusive VIP lounge area for the Festival of Speed, which included a Michelin-star restaurant bar and a balcony overlooking the track. The goal was to capture the high-end luxury of this space while providing a sense of exclusivity, opulence, and an immersive experience. The brief called for a marker and dry ink style of illustration, which would align with the luxury and sophisticated vibe of the area, adding a sense of rawness and energy to the visuals.

The Process

The process began with initial sketches, which I developed into the first concepts for the client. These early-stage designs were intended to showcase the atmosphere of the space, highlighting the restaurant, the bar area, and the balcony with a view of the track. However, after presenting these initial sketches, the client decided to change direction in terms of the style for the final set of illustrations, which led to a revised approach. The sketches I created during this phase are featured in another part of my portfolio, showing the initial creative process.

The Result

The Reflection

Reflecting on the project, I really enjoyed experimenting with this sketchy, marker style. It allowed me to bring a dynamic energy to the illustrations, creating a more casual yet refined atmosphere that felt authentic to the space. Though the final illustrations went in a different direction, I learned a lot during this phase, particularly about working with raw sketch concepts and refining them based on client feedback. The challenge of translating this specific visual language into something both stylish and fitting for the Festival of Speed was an exciting one, even though the client ultimately opted for a different style for the final product.
